CoQuS Retreat 2014

22.10.2014 - 25.10.2014

The annual retreat in 2014 takes place in Geneve with a visit to the largest particle physics laboratory in the world, the facilities of the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN).

The organizers of this retreat have established contact with key scientists of the main experiments at CERN to create a schedule that emphasizes on potential synergies between the research interest of the CoQuS groups and the various CERN research teams.

A presentation on the history of CERN, the current experiments and future challenges will be given by the spokesperson for the AEGIS experiment at the CERN Antiproton Decelerator, Michael Doser.
Other activities will include:
- A tour to the Compact-Muon-Solenoid experiment (CMS) at the Large Hadon Collider (LHC) by Michael Hoch and colleagues.

- An introduction to the Anitmatter Experiment: Gravity, Interferometry, Spectroscopy (AEGIS) by Michael Doser and his research team

- A tour through the ATLAS experiment at the LHC by Andreas Salzburger and fellow scientists

- A tour of ALICE (A Large Ion Collider Experiment) at the LHC.
